A couple of things I made today….. one was a very clever design by @george_outdoors82 for his #nortent #vern1 tent footprint- having a vestibule section that can be separated and rolled back in halves! And another gear loft, this time for a Terra Nova Pioneer. I make my gear lofts with adjustable hanging depths so you can raise or lower the depending on how much stuff you put up there. Always looking for ways to improve things! ⛺️🌦️🌲🏔️

A gear loft for a #durstongear #xdome1 🥰 This one is in black noseeum mesh (from the brilliant @pointnorthprofabrics of course), but I also have olive green or white in the same……..If your tent has ceiling hanging points in anything other than a straight line, then I can make you one. Each hanging point is adjustable in hanging height with toggles on shock cord. Shock cord colour can be black, red, orange, yellow, blue or green. I like to put my phone up there and watch a movie through the mesh 😆 Let me know if you’d like one my fellow nemophilists!

The views from the #ridgewaynationaltrail never disappoint, and it was just what we needed to reset. Two and a #malinois in an #xdome2 is certainly cosy, but we appreciated the hairy hot water bottle!

My 1442r Tyvek footprints get just the same tie out treatment as my standard ones. Reinforced with Tyvek tape both sides, flag stitching and pull force distribution stitching. Weighs just 43gsm and doesn’t have any unsightly printing on. Being made of HDPE it is also recyclable. I also include a length of tyvek tape for any emergency repairs. Meaning we had time to make some homemade tangfastics from some Quince cheese/membrillo from foraged Quince from the local woods. Then five footprints….. a #durstongear Xmid and #abiskolite1 in Tyvek, then another #fjern #stormgrotta ,a custom shape for another, finishing with a classic #macpac #minaret .And now I am having a deserved bottle of dunkertons cider 🍎🍏 Hope everyone has a good evening!

Now the equinox has passed the nights are getting one longer and days cooler… and I’ve had a run on insulated bag orders. Today has been spent making up a stock of half completed ones ready to add your choices of colour and set up. They keep battery devices from discharging in the cold, and keep your food warm, rehydrating it quicker and keeping it piping hot… it’s also a darn sight easier to hold. These are patented free standing with a double layer of insulation inside ripstop silnylon. All fabrics from @pointnorthprofabrics who are my main supplier. If you have one of my bags send me a pic! Adding an extra guyline point on each corner to make 2 in all, giving more stability under sideways wind pressure and allowing the owner to have a 2 into 1 guyline set up. Newer iterations of the XDomes all have double corner points now. Tape and stitch colour was best match available, but I matched stitch length to reduce the number of holes sewn, another important consideration when working with small margins and fine materials… you don’t want it perforating like a teabag under pressure!! 🫖🏕️

Who can guess the model of this super popular summit tent that I’m adding pockets to?! A bit of a stressful job as they’re not a cheap tent and generally well loved by their owners! The customer asked for them to be a little deeper than the ones already on there as they weren’t user friendly.

Happy #SummerSolstice all! I hope you’re not melting too much. I shall be out tonight to see the sun set on the longest day and begin the slow march to mid winter. In the meantime I have finally entered the world of the #tyvekfootprint Using 1442r Tyvek I have now dialled in my approach to using this fascinating material. And like any material, it has its pros and cons. It’s exceedingly light at 43g/1.2oz per metre square, recyclable and white. But… it’s not as strong or waterproof as the other material I use, no stretch, bulkier to pack, rustly, more expensive per metre and…white! But one customer liked the white as it enabled them to spot ticks which were prevalent where they camp. For strengthening the tie out points I have tyvek tape which I’ve doubled over the edge and central placement. I trialled lots of different styles using a very scientific ‘wrench it until it fails’ method and this was the best. I also have metal mitten clips in stock if anyone wants to add them as an option to their footprint, tyvek or not. And what better way to show off a boring old clip? Drape it over a drinking horn I had to hand! (As every woman should have to hand on solstice of course!) ☀️🌅☀️ Happy Camping all.

I’ve used pink in the past for a very glamorous AT thru hikers xmid footprint for example. Purple went off to Finland last week and orange is off to the USA this week. Using a colour different to your tents tie outs can really help quickly differentiate what belongs to what, which is great for tired heads and hands. They’re also good for putting a different colour on doors or vestibules to help orientate your tent easily. We all know how challenging it can be to wrestle a tent in high winds 😂

Awesome news at @quint.craft HQ! Aided by the incredible people at Definition IP (an IP law firm!), I have just received my UK Patent Certificate for my insulated roll top bags! Literally couldn’t have done it without them. It’s taken a few years! And not one to rest on my laurels, I’ve been continuing to think of ways I can improve my operating ethics… I’ve switched to completely recycled and recyclable packaging and use paper bags for attachments I send with footprints. I’m going to continue sending my cut offs to @dirt_bags now being run by the wicked team at @snowdoniagearrepair so they can be given a new lease of life and not landfilled. I use 100% green energy tariff for my utilities and source materials from Uk companies only. Any other ideas welcomed!

Threads! 🪡🧵 In addition to the Tera 60 I use for my folded footprint hems, I am now using a specialist expanding thread for joining seams. Most footprints are too large to be made in one piece, and need two or three pieces joining. This thread has a high tenacity polyester core and cotton satinised outer, which means it expands when damp and blocks up the needle holes. This gives further protection from any water seeping through under heavy pressure. It’s a technique used by many tent manufacturers and reduces any need for taping or sealing seams.

Overnight on #dartmoornationalpark with my best buddy adventure dog. Clear and cold, stars and planets out. Frost on the inside of the tent vestibule. The wind got up around midnight but we felt safe and secure in the #hilleberg nallo2 GT fully guyed out. Used my vestibule footprint as the ground is still soggy in many places. Few other campers out and about, along with school groups which is always heartening to see. Chatted to a few others who wanted to meet Lucydog, so nice to see everyone adhering to the #leavenotrace principles. Dartmoor is a very special resource and amazing area, I’ll continue camping there despite recent attempts to shut it off from normal people, #thestarsareours #dartmoornationalpark #righttoroam

This weeks makes for all you adventurous souls have included- pole bags for hilleberg poles, delta peg bags, a #kuiu storm star footprint, three insulated bags, a #scarp1 footprint and a #durstongear xmid1 footprint. ❄️❄️❄️❄️ When the weather is snowy or frosty the ground is sodden which can increase condensation inside your tent, doubly so for a winter tent with low flysheets that reduce airflow. A footprint gives a barrier between the ground and the tent and can reduce the internal condensation. Let me know what you need!

I have been asked now and again whether I offer these and I’m generally not a huge fan for these reasons- they trap water/dirt/bugs inside, and they have to be a fair amount smaller than the outer fly to ensure they don’t come into contact with the sloping walls of tents when they’re pushed in by wind/rain…. BUT in my spare moments I have worked on a lightweight design and am now happy to offer them! They’re best suited for the flysheet only single skin gram weenie campers rather than tents with an inner as you won’t be able to peg out your inner! But I can also see them working for vestibule coverage. Would you use a bathtub footprint? Let me know!

Lucy is in the 2025 calendar for the charity that’s closest to my heart- @heropaws .They help retired service animals no matter what they need and for how ever long they need it. Sales of the calendar supports their end goal of creating a retirement retreat for the doggos that just need a little more time to adjust to civvy street, and those who never will. They have served their country without choice and without hesitation, and receive zero funding from the services after they’re retired out! Many people are completely unaware of this. And yes, it’s a travesty imho. So I support them as much as I can. Theres 11 other beautiful retired dogs in the rest of the calendar to coo over too! Today is Armed Forces Day in the UK. This is just a small post to say thank you to all my followers who are veterans or still serving. My dog is a veteran, and I’m very proud of her. I’m very grateful to you all for the service you’ve given to your country. Over the month of July I’ll be taking part in #walkforwarriors which is a 150km goal, along with Lucydog the RMWD. I’m hoping to raise money to help these veterans in their retirement, with the end goal of a sanctuary where they can take their time adjusting to civilian life. Sadly so many hundreds get put to sleep each year before a place can be found for them. A sanctuary will save lives, it’s only right after they’ve served their country with such loyalty and bravery. Another quick dash out in the tin tent last night as I was sewing all day. Lush weather, beautiful sunset and sunrise, skylarks and peace! This July madam and I are going to challenge ourselves to walk 150km in support of Hero Paws, the charity that helps ex service dogs in retirement, the end goal being the creation of a sanctuary where the more hardy warriors who can’t adjust to civvy life can live out their best lives, they aim to make it a place for military service humans to find refuge when they need it too…. Got round to finally making myself a vestibule footprint for my #nallo2gt tent. Just to lighten the load a tad but still get some ground protection. Especially with the still sodden ground in the uk. I also sorted some sweet new labels, and helped kiddo bottle up her cider experiment that she’s working on for her DofE skill element. Another lovely weekend. The dog even got the end of lamb shoulder that wouldn’t fit in the slow cooker 😂 And finished a spoon carved out of beech. A busy but productive weekend!
